Every woman puts on her makeup differently. We create these habits, and it becomes part of our daily routine. It becomes like second nature. We don’t even think about it. It’s like drinking a cup of coffee in the morning then walking out the door.
Same goes with our makeup. Thing is most of us are not putting on makeup properly. And when I say properly I mean in the correct order. There actually is an order that we should be putting our makeup on because it compliments the next step and so on and so on.
We all already have the products so I want to talk about what you should begin with and why. The first product you should be using is obviously a foundation or BB cream for that reason exactly, it is your foundation.
You’re going to want to apply the foundation, like Smashbox studio to your entire face with a brush or sponge. Make sure you apply it in a way that looks seamless and natural. Which might I add has an awesome line of foundations.
The second step would be to use concealer. Concealer second? Hmmm? Now I know your thinking concealer should go on before the foundation but that’s not necessarily true. Think about it, the foundation is going to be covering up a lot of blemishes and dark spots on its own. It is going to even out your complexion.
Now, you could take the concealer and go back and use it to cover up what the foundation couldn’t. It’s genius. You could go back and make sure that your foundation and face is now flawless.
The third step is a combination of contouring with bronzer, blush, and highlighter. Now you could use all three or you could use just one or two of these. You first want to start with the contour around the forehead, under the cheekbone, around the chin, and around the nose and blend well.
With the blush, you’ll want to apply it to the apple of your cheeks, and with the highlighter, you’ll want to apply it above the cheekbone, under the brow and any other place you feel like highlighting. Again, you don’t have to do all three. Sometimes a simple blush is all you need.
The fourth step is eyeshadow. You could do something very simple with a pale pink or nude type color for like a day look, or you could totally kick it up into high gear and go all out like with a dark smoldering smokey eye for an evening look. This is actually one of my favorite looks. I do a smokey eye with a pale lip. It looks absolutely fabulous!
The fifth step is eyeliner. Now you can keep your eyeliner very simple and apply simply in the eye in a classic brown or black or you can have fun with eyeliner.
For starters, you can play with colors. they’ve got every color under the sun these days, they even have glitter eyeliner, they have glitter eyeshadow as well. You can also use a liquid eyeliner, which allows you to make a winged effect or cat eye. Liquid eyeliner also comes in colors and that is always fun!
The sixth step is mascara. Mascaras also come in different colors. There fun to play with but for the most part, black is usually the best. You may also want to buy an eyelash curler if you really want to make your lashes look long.
But if you really want them to look long I would recommend a product called MAC In Extreme Dimension 3D Black Lash Mascara. Not only does this mascara make my lashes look like they’re about to hit the top of my forehead but it makes them thicker too.
Next, take your mascara wand and place it at the base of your lashes and kind of wiggle it back and forth, like in a zig zag motion and then you push the wand up through the rest of your lashes, It’s that simple.
This is the correct way to apply mascara, I didn’t know I was putting it on wrong for years! Most women only apply the mascara only to the tip of their lashes which is the wrong way.
The seventh step is lip liner. Lip liner is exactly what it sounds like, a liner that lines your lips. The best way to use it is to get a shade the is similar to whatever lipstick shade you plan on wearing. They come in bare nudes all the way to black. They also come in different formulas like satin and matte.
Your eighth step is lipstick. You can pick whatever wonderful color you love! Oh, the colors, the colors, the colors! You may also choose to use whatever formula or finish of lipstick you like. You could go for a more satiny type finish or a matte type finish.
If lipstick isn’t your thing, you could always go for a lig gloss that also comes in different finishes like matte or you could go for something like a tinted lip balm. So many choices, so little time! These would be the steps to applying makeup.
Now there are two things I didn’t include as steps because they are up in the air on whether or not you actually need them or if they would be included as steps.
The first would be a primer. Primer is a substance that prepares the skin by smoothing the skin’s surface which may allow for the makeup to last longer. Some makeup artist swear by it, while others feel it depends on your skin type like if you have oily skin then maybe you should consider using a primer.
The second would be a finishing spray. A finishing spray or setting spray comes in a mist and is kind of like a top coat for your makeup. It truly does help to make your makeup last all day. I personally use a product called Urban Decay All Nighters which is a 12-hour spray that I can promise you has held up many a night.
Its light and airy, which quite different than a lot of the other finishing sprays that are out there. Others tend to be a little sticky making it hard to take your makeup off at night.
Now I know there are other brands that do this, depending on the brand you choose. Bottom line, if you’ve never tried either a primer or finishing spray I would recommend that you do.
Well, there you have it, in the proper order, how to apply your beauty products. If you follow these simple steps, your makeup will absolutely love you for it! If you have any questions or comments please leave them below as I will love to hear from you!
