Does Mederma actually work? It did for me!

First of all, what is Mederma? Mederma is a topical ointment that is used to help improve the overall appearance of scars. It’s benefits are to make the scar seem less noticeable. It can even help with acne scars which makes it wonderful in my eyes! It comes in a small tube like a bottle and comes in either a cream or a gel-like texture.

The cream actually contains sunscreen, so if your plan to be out in the day, this would be the better choice for you. The other version of Mederma is a gel-like texture.  Mederma also has a Stretch Mark Therapy, although I’ve never tried that one before. Applying Mederma is really quite simple, you use a small amount and rub it gently into the scar.

You want to cover the entire scar for best results. For new scars, it should be applied for eight weeks, and for older scars three to six months. The Mederma that I use is the once a day Mederma Advanced Scar Gel. The other formula’s you apply up to three times a day. Now if you have several scars Mederma can become quite pricey.

It could run you up to  $34 dollars. One of the cheapest places to get it would be online, like Amazon for around $14 dollars and more depending on the size tube you buy.

There are a ton of before and after photos out there that you could look at if you want to see if it really works, some people swear by it while it simply doesn’t work for others. But I’m going to share with you a little bit of my story with you and how it worked for me. In 2008 I was in a rollover motor vehicle accident. My feet and ankles wrapped around the pedals, and I lost my right forearm.

The scars were absolutely horrendous. I had heard of the product and couldn’t wait to use it but I had to wait until all my wounds were healed. This is part of their instructions.

The first time I used it I was impressed. It was a light gel that went on incredibly smooth, almost like a wet gloss. Now my scars were large, but I didn’t care. I really wanted the scars gone.

Unfortunately, they didn’t disappear overnight, but over time they did appear to be smoother. But it does take continuous application. You have to follow the directions until you achieve your desired results. I still use Mederma to this day.

I still use it for my scars but I mostly use it for acne scars. Yes, acne scars! From me to you it does work. Again you have to be persistent. If you only use the product sparingly, you will not get the results you are looking for. They now have Mederma Stretch

Mark Therapy. It claims to hydrate the skin to even the texture, and it’s formula’s cephalin and Centella Asiatica help to lighten discoloration, while the hyaluronic acid improves collagen and elasticity. Their newest formula is Mederma PM Intensive Overnight Scar Cream.

Now I myself use this product as well, I use the Mederma Advanced Scar Gel in the daytime and use the PM formula at night which you can find at Amazon for $17.96. It works with your skins regenerative activity overnight. This might be a great option if you’re not able to apply where you need it in the daytime.

I really can’t speak for someone else, but Mederma works, it did for me. If you have any scars that you would like to lighten, or improve the scar overall, I would definitely give Mederma a try.

There are other scar therapy products on the market, but Mederma is the is one of the number one choices. If you have never tried it before, I think it’s definitely worth a shot. It helped me tremendously when I had my car accident. And I still use it till this day.
